Top kitchen trends for 2018 from Sutcliffe Kitchens in Guelph

Every year, the New Year brings new possibilities. It’s a time for renewal and hitting the refresh button – and that includes your home. Whether you’re considering taking on some minor DIY upgrades to your kitchen or hoping to do a full renovation in the coming year, consider incorporating some of these kitchen trends into your design!

1. Quartz Countertops

If you’re planning a big kitchen renovation and don’t know what kind of countertops you want, consider quartz. While granite has been a popular choice in the past, quartz is really starting to gain traction. Quartz has the benefits of being durable, offers a wide variety of finishes and colours, and is a nice change from the more common granite.

2. Brass Fixtures

While chrome fixtures are still in style and add a great classic look to your kitchen, if you want something a little trendier and out of the ordinary, consider brass for your cabinet hardware and faucets. Matte and shiny finishes are both in style for this year, so choose whichever option you prefer for your kitchen.

3. Two-Toned Cabinets

Two-toned cabinets are nothing new, but they’re making a big impact this year. There are a few ways that you can incorporate them into your kitchen. Pair a lighter coloured set of upper cabinets with darker lower cabinets. Or, choose one colour for your main cabinets and a different colour for your island or peninsula cabinets. Just make sure you choose contrasting or complementary colours that look good together.

4. Colour

Let’s face it: white kitchens are never going to go out of style. But even if you love a white kitchen, there are other ways to incorporate pops of colour into it. Ovens, range hoods, faucets or small appliances and even your cabinets are great ways to incorporate colour. Choose your favourite bright colour and add bits of it throughout your kitchen to make these features stand out.

5. Unique Tiles

We all love white subway tile, but it’s not your only option for your backsplash. Instead of opting for the standard white subway tile, stretch your design muscles and be a little more daring! Colourful subway tiles as well as different shapes like arabesque, hexagons and even Moroccan-inspired tiles are a few of the many options available to you.
